Virtual Prototype Designer

The Disability Experiment - Reference #528BTO

The Disability Experiment

Full-Time Position Work Remotely

The Disability Experiment is leading the accessibility revolution and we are leading from the front!

We believe that the people with visible and invisible disabilities must be involved when Companies create and design their products- so they will be as accessible as possible. It is only logical. Without us – The Companies don’t know what they don’t know.

We seek a virtual prototype designer for at least one of our Skunk Works Programs who believes in our revolution, understands the need for it and who has first hand experience with accessible products.

Our Skunk Works Programs create accessible products in collaboration with Companies. We are looking for a virtual prototype designer who can create virtual prototypes of the inventions created at the Skunk Works Program.

Job Description

To make sure we are on the same page – let’s explain first what we mean by a virtual prototype.

Virtual prototyping involves using computer-aided design (CAD) to validate a design before committing to making a physical prototype.

Virtual Prototypes can be created using software ranging from Blender, Maya, 3ds Max to Autodesk – all the way to Solidworks.

We are looking for a Virtual Prototype Designer who is an expert using Blender.

If you are an expert in another program that you think is better than Blender for making virtual prototypes then apply and let us know why. – We are very open minded.

The Virtual Prototypes help us understand and visualize the inventions we come up with in our Skunk Works Programs.

The Virtual Prototypes you create will help us understand the inventions and bring them to life.

This will enable us to iterate faster and more efficiently.

You will need to create the virtual prototypes and take them through various iterations with us.

This includes going from idea to initial designs and then to visualizations and simulations.

The bottom line is we need someone who can create virtual prototypes so we can iterate fast, demonstrate the functionalities of the inventions and show exactly how they solve specific problems.

Who You Are:

  • You are a person with a visible or invisible disability who understands that the disability is not the problem – the accessibility is the problem.
  • You enjoy brainstorming with really smart people and coming up with out of the box solutions to problems.
  • You know that amazing things happen when no one cares about who gets the credit for them.
  • You love to tinker, to take things apart and hopefully put them back together.
  • You are and have always been very curious about how things work.
  • You are super creative and enjoy solving problems.
  • You have the discipline to work remotely and when needed can work under pressure and time constraints.
  • You own your mistakes and learn from them.
  • You have mastered Blender and love working with it
  • You have not mastered Blender but believe you have mastered a “better” program that can make better virtual prototypes than Blender and are willing to convince us that we should hire you and use what you have mastered.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Create virtual prototypes that demonstrate and simulate how a particular invention works, its functionality and exactly how it solves a particular problem
  • Brainstorm with inventors and iterate with them as they take their inventions from idea to final working virtual prototype.
  • Play devil’s advocate with the inventors and challenge them about the functionality of their inventions.
  • Own the overall design of the virtual prototypes.
  • Find and manage freelancers
  • Answer only to the Director of the Program
  • Own your mistakes and learn from them
Qualifications In Addition to Mastering Blender (or what you think is better)
  • Super organized
  • You are kinda Geeky in that you love creating stuff using software
  • Proven attention to detail
  • Has learned how to learn and is willing to learn new things.
  • Comfortable using Slack, Skype, and Google Docs.

If you have a degree tell us about it. But you do not need any type of degree to be our Virtual Prototype Designer
